First, I told you that Universal You would be released early last summer.
Then, I promised you it'd be ready by Labor Day 2009.
It's now 2010.
Happy New Year!
Still no record, though, and I hope I haven't alienated you with all these broken promises.
As I've been saying since we finished tracking last fall, the record is now in Will's hands for mixing. This is still the case; the problem is that Will's skills as a master instrumentalist and producer are so rare that everyone else wants a piece of him too, and as such he's currently tied up with other projects (not to mention serving as a full-time dad and husband).
Unfortunately for me, secrets like Will don't stay underground for very long.
Will Robertson, family man and Most Desirable Producer in Atlanta
He has managed to send me, however, nearly final mixes of three of the fourteen songs on the album, and they sound AMAZING. I couldn't be happier with Will's "blocking" of each sound, with everything in it's proper place left-to-right and front-to-back.
Will seems pleased with his work, too, which is certainly encouraging -- his email to me of the "Mason Jar" mix was accompanied by the line "Dude, I'm not gonna toot my own horn, and there certainly may be stuff that can be improved, but this shit sounds GOOOD." Nothing like a swear word and caps lock to keep yours truly feeling good about things.
Will also mentioned that the "pace may slow a little after this one - but things are going pretty easily now that I've got all my ducks in a row soundwise." More to come.
On another note, I've negotiated a little deal with the boys at Red Eye Gravy (a Lenz Music production) for packaging and promotion of the record. This is a wonderful thing. More to come on this, too.
Finally, please forgive for me for last year's broken promises and understand that I'm just as disappointed (if not more) than all of you that we weren't able to finish the project. Just a few more months now. I hope you trust that it'll be worth the wait.
Sincerely,
-Nate
