Hi friends.

On Monday, I said "more to come tomorrow on our progress (Will's progress, I mean)." Well, by "tomorrow" I meant "Sunday. My apologies.

Anyway -- I received the second round of mixes from Will and could NOT be happier with the results. I made a few initial notes and decided to sit on the mixes for a couple of days to give my untrained ears time to adjust to the changes... I did so, then submitted the following final notes to Will:

Final NB Notes/Commentary 2/23 (in response to OVERVIEW and DETAIL sections below)

PIECING TOGETHER THE WORLD

1) Yeah, scratch that panning thing altogether (at beginning AND end) but keep each "ca-chinga-chinga-ching" at it's raised level.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

1) "Under your spell waiting for your next move" (1:35): Is the "spell" weird? Is the second "your" (of your next move) flat or otherwise off? Maybe we take the entire line from the second bridge (2:26) and copy/paste here? I'm more worried about the "your" then the "spell"... maybe just import the "your"?

FOR CHANGE'S SAKE

1) I love the tambo and shakers, here, big time. VERY additive. However, the very first tambo hit (0:01) doesn't really resonate and sounds like a dud compared to the next two (0:03, 0:05). Can we bring in the one from 0:05 and paste it here?

2) "he needs a change... he needs something to change" (01:52): I still haven't made up my mind on the three-part vocal there, but I do know this: the second "change" sounds like "chain" because all three vocals fade out before the lead's closing consonant sound, "g." Can we find this closing consonant, even if subtly, in the lead? I thought it was there before...

3) Regarding the three-part bridge. I definitely think you should take down the lower third a dB or two (two, probably?). I love your idea of "feeling it rather than hearing it."

ASK ANYONE

1) Should we omit the first intro progression? i.e., begin the song at the 0:12 mark? If you don't think two intro progressions is too many, then just leave as is.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I say all of that to say this: we now have fourteen mixed songs, complete with all the microscopic changes I regrettably asked Will to make and that he regrettably conceded.

This means only mastering (March 5 at Rodney Mills Masterhouse in Duluth, GA) and packaging (already in progress) remain.

By Friday, however, I have to decide the track listing. You would think this would be easy at this point, but it could prove to be quite vexing...  What should the album open with? What should it close with? Which song has earned the right to the coveted #2 slot?

Any suggestions?

Good night,

-Nate

P.S. I can't believe I failed to mention this Monday upon returning from the cruise: though my karoake performance(s) were indeed forgettable, I DID manage to come home with a cornhole trophy:

That's correct, my partner Dave Kelly and I were the best cornhole tossers on the ship (Gabe, Jess, Gilda, Josh, and Spencer -- no jokes here, please).
